We had a perfect time, really splendid, and could not ask for more… although, is permanent residency an option? The Nguni’s visited us daily (even nightly!) and made an already brilliant stay even more wonderful and memorable. Thank you for the time we spent at Aloe Cottage. I’ve got my mom and dad here from Durban and they are super excited. My mom has the room with the French doors and she can’t wait for the morning to wake up and have a wonderful view. We had a wonderful time playing “I wonder if the cottage has …?”. In a whole weekend we only beat the house twice at the game – once when we looked for grapefruit spoons (really, you have everything else…). The other time was when we searched for a baking recipe book (I shall send you one). My daughter, Emma, was suffering badly from 6 months in res and when she saw the spring form tin and scale, she became ecstatic! I was fascinated by the potato masher – circa 1950s. My mom had one and as kids we begged her not to stir in the butter and milk, but to let us just eat the “worms” as they came out of the masher! Thank you for letting us bring 3 month old “Lucy”. The stairs were taller than she, but if she took them at a run she made it to the top. Lucy received and rejected a proposal from “Turbo” at Alexanderfontein, saw Darling from the basket of the bike and had the apparently not unique experience of being beaten up by a three-legged cat under the wooden gaze of “Die Groot Krokodil” at Evita se Perron’s Boerassic Park! Thanks for sharing your home with us.
The Dawsons + “Lucy”
Aloe Cottage is very comfortable. We enjoyed using the bikes and loved the bath – best I’ve ever been in. Love your water-wise garden. The weavers are a great asset – nice to watch them from the kitchen. No sign of Ngunis. I did hear some bellowing and snorting during the night, but that may have been my husband, after lots of red wine.
The flower displays at the flower festival were really impressive – well worth seeing.
